MorganFranklin Corporation, a business and technology consulting firm that delivers financial management, performance improvement, and national security solutions to government and industry clients, was awarded the American Heart Association's (AHA) 2011 Start! Fit-Friendly certification. The designation marks the third consecutive year that MorganFranklin has been recognized by Start!, which benefits employers by helping to create a culture of physical activity and wellness within organizations to help employees live longer, heart-healthy lives.
"Employee health and wellness is important to MorganFranklin, and we are committed to promoting wellness that will help build a more active, heart-healthy workforce. We offer health risk assessments, 24/7 access to tracking and nutrition tools, live health coaches through our insurance provider, regular wellness communications, gym subsidies, and more. Through these efforts, we encourage our employees to adopt healthier lifestyles, which boosts wellness, productivity, and work-life balance while also combating escalating health care costs," said Ashley Baquié, Vice President of Human Resources at MorganFranklin. "We are honored to once again be recognized by the American Heart Association for our efforts to help our employees live longer, healthier lives."
This year, the AHA recognized 72 Start! Fit-Friendly companies in the greater Washington, D.C., area for promoting physical activity and health in the workplace. MorganFranklin achieved Gold-level recognition for implementing various activities and programs to encourage physical activity, nutrition, and culture enhancements. According to the AHA, worksite wellness programs are proven to prevent the major modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including smoking, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
Founded in 1924, the American Heart Association is the nation's oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to building healthier lives free of heart disease and stroke. To help prevent, treat, and defeat these diseases—America's No. 1 and No. 3 killers—the AHA funds cutting-edge research, conducts lifesaving public and professional educational programs, and advocates to protect public health.
